I disconnected the wastegate and capped off both the red line and the inlet. MPG jumped up by about 4 mpg. Is this for real or am I not seeing something? I don't have a boost guage so just keep the RPM under 2500. Everything is stock on this '99 PSD F250 Crewcab with the 6 speed manual tranny. Am I safe by keeping RPM under 2500 or do I need a guage?

Thanks,

Randy

I would think 4 mph is pretty high just from pulling your red line. You shouldn't have to worry about overboosting, the wastegate will still open, just not as soon as it would with the red line connected.

i tried it on mine a few months ago, no gauges though.

i actually thought the power was the same if not maybe a little less and the mileage stayed the same so i put it back on for now.

bone stock 96psd.

maybe more power if i added a chip but not stock on mine.

Big Red, no 97 and older PSDs don't have a wastegate.

Thank you! I can now stop looking for one! Do you know how they regulate the boost.....or do they??? Is it just full boost all the time???

I don't know what he disconnected, but it wasn't a wastegate. The original PSD , 94.5-97, did not have a wastegate from the factory. This thread has info on how the 94.5-97 trucks work: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...ight=wastegate+

Check my signature for the brand. Can't say were from (rules). No problems at all. I ordered stock, 50, 75, 100, 140, fast idle.

Ok, so I've read this thread and the above referenced thread mentioned by PSDPOWER. I'd like to ask this qestion, though slightly off topic. I have a '97 which does not have a wastegate, we've determined. Its an automatic. If I take off from a light rather hard, but not floored, when it shifts to third (overdrive off), it feels like I loose my boost and sounds like it too. I don't have gauges yet, but the truck lags suddenly, loses momentum, and I hear a psssshhhhhhhttt sound (like that technical term?) that sounds like all the air has been released from a tire or something. I always assumed it was the wastegate. If I don't have one, is there something else that could possibly be going on?

Kinda hard to diagnose sounds over the internet. If you can get a boost gauge just to hook up temporarily it would be obvious if it were a boost issue or something else.
