It has nothing to do with the supply voltage, only signal voltage to the computer after the sensor. I had an SES flicker before any waste gate mods. I cant remember the code but it was for injector pressure.
Every time I open this forum I have more questions. I am not very sharp on diesels, everything I know is what I read here. I have a Banks Bighead wastegate on mytruck. Does this serve the same purpose that disconnecting the vacuum line does? I bought the truck used and am still finding after market additions.
1999.5 F250 Lariat, X cab, long box, Auto, Banks Bighead and Trans-Command, EGT, Boost, TrannyTemp gauges.
when you talk about a pressure regulator is that the same thing as a boost relief valve that Dieselsite sells, theirs gos in line with the map sensor but doesnt say what you use it for.

Yup, just different means to the same end. Both prevent the MAP sensor from reading the actual boost level above about 24 psi.
I too have the Banks big head, stinger plus, banks brake, etc., the new afe filter. i can only hit 25psi when pulling hard. Seams like if the big head was equilevent to disconecting the wastgate altogether I should be seeing more boost? And I did no mods to the map, so does the ottomind chip handel the over boost defueling issue?
Thanks for the clarification.
BTY it's an '01.

In a manner of speaking. The ottomind line are not terribly aggressive programs, so it probably just doesn't put in enough fuel to make more than 25psi. You can try unplugging the line from the big head as described earlier for the stock wastegate and see if you pick up a pound or two, but you would likely have to upgrade to the Big hoss line to see drastic improvements (assuming you wanted to stay with Banks products, or even wanted a new chip).
I have a 7.3 in a 02 6speed super chips ,tow safe mode, no gauges . Could un pluging the waste gate cause any problems ? Also sometimes I am towing up to 15000 lbs
Gauges should be the first mod done. I suggest nothing further without them. To disconnect the waste gate would be asking for problems if you can't monitor whats happening. Even in tow safe with that kind of weight is a no no!
Well I gave it a try and unpluged the red line from the wastegate just to see if the SES light came on and also if my boost went up. Neither happened, there was no change. The only thing I saw and this could just have been the way I was driving at the time, it seemed the boost gague may have gone up from 17-19 lbs at 6o mph. Does this mean something is wrong with my truck or is there something I did wrong. The only thing I didnt do was cap the red line after I took it off, I couldnt find what to plug it with. Any Ideas. Thanks
Well I finally finished a full tank with the waste gate disconected. I think I'm starting to go off the deep end. 20's for lows 40's for highs and I just can't seem to get my windows up. Well with the right foot firmly planted on this tank I did see an increase of one mpg. Hard to say with only one tank and winter blended fuel but it works for me.
I just ordered a 6 way flip chip, stock, fast idle, 50, 75, 100, 145 (bug spray). I'll start a new thread when I get it and we'll see how it does.
Mech, I assume you got the TS, whose programs are you getting? Just curious looking at the same chip. Start a new thread and let us know how it works out.
