Rare 4x4 Front Axle????

I have come across a Dana 44 front axle off of a 78 F-150 with leaf springs. It has 3.54 gears and disk brakes. I was told that this came off of a Canadian truck and only about 800 - 900 were made. Does anyone have any info on this axle??

I have seen 2 of these trucks. Both were super cabs & called camper special package. I thought the first one was made from a F250 but then I saw the 2nd one & have found out that they were made. Not shure about the Canada thing.

Saw one once and also thought it was a change over,can't say for sure.But had an "ole timer" tell me it was a "light duty 250", kinda like a F-100/F-150 HEAVY-HALF Theory.

I thought all 1/2 ton super cab 4x4's were leaf spring. And it didn't matter where they were made.
Never saw a 1/2 ton regular cab with leaves.

This is correct. I have only ever seen one Supercab F150 with coils and they were added when the owner swapped front axles from a regular cab F150. After doing some research I found out that it came with leaf springs originally. Had me stumped though.

The reason it has leafs is because the Supercab F150s share the same frame as F250/350s.

What you are looking at is a Dana 44HD.
