Flaming Headache
I don't care what John says, that looks awesome! Mightly fine job-and especially for your first rodeo! I'd have to agree with himmel on the contrasting color for a pinstripe. As was suggested previously, a bright light green or light blue would set it off nicely.
Himmel, I love those scallops! I've a gray canvas ready for color

Good Luck!
If not,can I assume that this is a typical section that needs a little attention at the end of the process? Just wondering about what would happen on mine...... Thanks, John
OK, I'll try some contrasting pinstripe colors. I'm going to use tape first until I decide what I like anyway, so there is no risk. I don't care for blue. I need to find a source. Only found a couple colors around here.

Be careful who you get advice from, but here is what I did. I painted everything tangerine. In the gap, I masked the edges between the yellow to orange and white to yellow transition. I free handed after that during the 14 blends I did. If you used base-clear, it would be simple to clean up. You can use some fine paper or just get out the air brush. If you get a good blend on the hood, it looks pretty decent in the gap without doing anything at all. It's the least of your worries.
Biggest obstacle. From where my front hood emblem will be, follow over toward the right front fender. See where the white looks a little screwy where all the angles meet (on the hood). It's like painting in a thunderstorm. Need to get out a little sandpaper and the airbrush. It is just double tough to get a blend there. Air deflects in 5 directions as you drag the gun across the contours. I couldn't pull it off with the touch-up gun. It would take some experience.

Are you sure never picked up an airbrush before, or are you just putting us on? You did an absolutely awesome job. Looks great!

You got me wondering how an "icicle" job might look on a white '59?

No, this is my first flight. Unless you count my Krylon Starsky and Hutch stripes on a 74 Pinto I had in highschool. (I've always been really cool).
My PICs should prove that. If not for Himmelberg's instructions, I'd be mad and have the front clip back in primer by now. It was all about paint viscocity and correct gun adjustment. Nothing to do with any artistic talent. I assure you of that. I couldn't draw a freehand smiley face if you spotted me a circle. And BTW, very little of this ended up being airbrush. It's mostly $29.95 Harbor Freight touch-up gun.

No I haven't. I work whenever I am awake. I know you guys probably think I am exaggerating, but prepping units for Iraq is all I do for the last 6 months. And the good weapons were deployed a long time ago. I'm running on empty in the sleep department. But nobody is shooting at me so it's all good I guess. They will however, be shooting at literally every good friend I have in the world beside you guys in the real near future. I am deploying my wife's kid brother tomorrow, and he ain't going to Disneyland so I take my job real serious. I know you guys want some outside shots, but the PICs of my truck in my dark garage at 10PM will have to do for now. I'm lucky I am making any progress on my truck at all. We get a break pretty soon and I'll get on it. Promise.
Well, when you can finally see your work in the sunlight, have your sunglasses on...I believe you will need them. You're gonna love it!

Now ya got me thinking about the black with the flattening agent. Just a question......gloss black paint requires extra good bodywork, would the black flatty paint be more forgiving? Or would my feeble attempts to straighten out 50 + years be as evident as a turd in a punch bowl at the prom? I have seen a few rat rods that were flatted out and flamed and they were awesome.
Shure wish my sheetmetal looked as good as yours.
Cousin John,
Is he serious with this $29.95 HF gun? Or is he pulling our leg? More of the FatFenders tongue firmly in cheek humor?

Fenders, I think it looks pretty darn good. In fact I think your ready to perform on the next episode of OVERHAULIN doing some flame work. Great job.
