5.4L Error Code P0316
5.4L Error Code P0316
3 weeks ago, I started my 2002 Econoline after it had been sitting unused for 3 very rainy days. It has a 5.4L motor with about 48K miles. It was relatively hard to start and when it finally started, it ran very rough for about 2 minutes. I never had the problem before that and it hasn't happened since.
Last night I scanned the system and found an error code P0316 was reported.
P0316 = Engine Misfire Detected on Startup (First 1000 Revolutions)
Does anybody have an idea as to what caused this problem?
Thanks.

rainy days
i've heard of the 5.4l's with the "cop" set up devolping moisture under a coil. if it hasn't again that is most likely the problem. to prevent this you could remove each coil and apply dielectric grease to the tops of the plugs. but on a van this isn't an easy task.
Thanks. I was wondering about the moisture issue because not only had it been rainy but it was also very humid to the point of being foggy during that time. I had though the newer cars were not prone to ignition problems caused by moisture but I guess this proves me wrong. I will make not of the error code and clear it. Then I will check it every so often to see if it comes back.

I had the same problem a week ago. It got real Foggy and rainy out. When I scanned the codes , I had a P0304 and a P0316. I haven't had it since. But I've heard from others who had a smilar problem , and the coils were getting wet. Mine is still under warrenty, so I'm thinking of taking it back to be fixed.
