I have a 1998 ranger 4x4 supercab with an automatic transmission. When I accelerate from a stopped position it seems as if the transmission starts spinning briefly then there is bump as the truck moves away. This occurs just about everytime that I start from a stopped posistion. Sometimes under breaking I will feel the same type of bumping sensation. I have had the transmission changed (warranty) yet the problem still persist. Does anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this?
There are several drive line TSBs, # 02-08-02 01-11-11 & 99-13-04, have you had the dealer check for these problems. I have most of the TSBs except the most resent, email me if you would like a copy.
This drive shaft spline bind problem goes back to 1958. I had a Fairlane 500 that did
this. Ford came up with a ribbed seal that got pushed onto the output shaft of the transmission and prevented the ATF from washing out the spline lube. Are they still
using the seal?
