460 swap

I know these questions havebeen asked before but for some reason I can't seem to find them. Can't remember if the bellhousing for a 351, 400 is the same for a 460, and if the motor mount towers will work. I am also replacing a 428 w/ a 460 and was wondering if the 460 towers from the '76 2wd truck will work in a 4wd? Any info would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

The bell housing interchanges between 351 M, 400, 429 and 460.
I don't think the motor mount towers will work. 351M and 400 are 1 set and 460 is another. No 2 wheel drive motor towers interchange with 4 wheel drive. I hope this helps you.

BUT if he is putting a 460 into a 4x4 originally equipped with the 351M/400 motor all he will need is new motor mount's. The original tower's from the 351M/400 will work for a 429/460 swap 4X4 frame.

Thanks for the info.

Highboyman,
Wondering what the differences are between 2wd & 4wd frames are? They have edited my posts before when I asked about buying parts. I may be interested about selling, so if you send me your email address I will give you info on the 428. My email address is danalker20@yahoo.com

The difference between the frames that pertains to the engine mounts is where they bolt on to the frame. The 2wd mounts onto the top of the frame and the front crossmember. The 4wd uses a completely different crossmember and the motor mounts in between the frame. All of the other info is good, check out L & L, they have everything you will need. That is not an area of your truck that you want to be cheap on. Do it right the first time.

MOSES
