Transmission Identification
This question might be kind of remedial, but how do I tell what kind of transmission is in my '91 F150 4x4?

Look at the sticker on the driver's side door jamb. Under TR there will a letter--which corresponds to the tranny you have.
U – Automatic 4R70W
E – Automatic E4OD
M – 5 speed manuaoverdrive

I should have been more specific. I have a 5-speed manual, but I'm wondering who manufactured it. Borg-Warner or not?

Probably a M5OD (Fair to Middlin) made by MAZDA! Check the crosshatch pattern. If it's a vertical/horizontal pattern it's a M5OD. If it's diagonal it's a ZF (Better).

dont think the ZF made it into any f-150s after 89 and they were rare. 99% chance says its the mazdog...M5OD

Thanks for the help.
With the mazda tranny, should I be able to find a bleeder screw on the internal (cocentric) slave cylinder?
Or do I have to open up the transmission and replace to whole cylinder if my hydrolic fluid needs to flushed?

clutch flush
You dont need to remove anything. Just open bleed screw attach a hose to bleeder and continue to fill up the master cylinder until you get nice fresh brake fluid. After finishing the bleeding process you will have removed 99% of the old fluid.Best of luck.

What is the door code for the ZF 5spd on a 89 150 or 250? Did they put the mazda 5spd behind the 351's in the 150 or 250 trucks?
