I have a 1977 Ford F250 Supercab with a 3 speed automatic transmission. I would like to remove the auto transmission and install a 4 speed standard transmission. Has anyone done this change over? Is this feasible? If so, what kind of bell housing would I need to fit the 460 engine for the transmission? All comments are appreciated.
Try a search on this topic, this is a common swap and subject. I think there is a technical article on this also. You can also contact me off-list if you can't find the info. you need. Thanks for the quick reply. I checked the technical articles but did not find such a thing. Any hints on web sites or places that may have something I can look at?
Thanks.
A 351-400 bellhousing and starter works fine.Although the tech dude at L&L says different,a 390 flywheel and clutch works fine. You will have to cut off the end of the transmission input shaft,I think about 1/8th of an inch-sorry,I don't remember exactly because it is too long and hits the crankshaft. There is also a early/late difference as to the crankshaft cut-out for the pilot bushing/torque converter snout.Again,I'm not sure of the year break. The pedals, clutch linkage ,flywheel and bellhousing should be available at a junkyard.Hope thi helps.
