Only opinion here, but I would guess it would dissolve any existing undercoating or rust proofing. The oil layer itself would not be thick enough to fight off nicks and scratches either. I wouldn't use it.

Yeek !! In my opinion (for whatever that is worth), there's nothing worse than an oily undercarriage.

AutoZone now sells cans of Valuecraft asphalt undercoating for 99 cents a can. I have been wondering how much a 5 gal. bucket of driveway sealer costs. I have heard you can use that as a brush on undercoat or general sealer.

The only thing I do with oil is pour it into cab corners and door bottoms. Really anywhere you can get it where water may set. It will inhibit the forming of rust. I guess my ideas are from the standpoint of owning a working truck that is used as a truck. Not a thing of beauty or a trailer queen. I have a 65 and I try to keep any damage done in the last 40 years from getting worse. Other than that I plan on only doing what it takes to keep it useable as a truck with some possible upgrades under the hood to add to its dependability. Looks like weve got at least four more years of hard times and to me the money it would take to make an old truck new again would outweigh the value of the truck. Plus I have to eat. I'm not even sure what a 65 Cutom Cab is worth nowadays.

JC Whitney sells brush on undercoating for $15.00 a gallon. You could use spray with it in hard to reach areas.
