Is my Computer dying?

OK.. this is for you puter experts out there. I am getting obvious pixels showing up on almost every image, especially thoose from the internet. I've checked my display properties, etc., and tried several settings, finally going back to the original and I still get pixels showing up...not on every square inch of pictures, but on parts of images. I downloaded a picture from my pictures to an online site and when it opens there, pixels are on parts of it. When I go to that main page, where I have my Chapter logo, pixels are on parts of it..and when I originally loaded it, it was perfect.

Any advice or knowledge from someone more computer literate than I would be appreciated. Thanks.

Without being able to see exactly what you're seeing, taking a guess it sounds like what you are experiencing is compression artifacts. Basically images are compressed to the point where you lose clarity in response to how much data is removed to create a smaller file size, thereby making the image look jagged and pixelated.

Another possibility is you have dead pixels in your monitor. The easiest way to tell if that is what it is, is if you see pixels in the same place no matter what you're looking at.

Like I said, it's kind of hard to tell having not seen what you have.

HTH.

You could take your monitor and video card to the nearest stip mall computer people, have them check for a couple bucks. I think that would be a good start.

Computer is a few years old now. The monitor shows clear images, as per this page...the only pixels I see are up in the blue, right above Forums|Galleries. As per the images I was talking about showing pixels, do this for me. Go to http://www.cafepress.com/hpdrifters and tell me what the logo looks like on the top of the store page. The FTE/Drifters logo there, has pixels along the top and windshield area of the truck images...on my puter. Plus, nearly every store item I open up to look closer at, has pixels showing some place and not always in the same area. Hope this helps. I'll check back in a few. Thanks.

Edit: Im installing NVIDIA updates now. See if that helps.

Well, I looked at those images and it looks to me like compression artifacts. How are you saving those images? And what software are you using to do so?

As far as seeing it on other images too, something is going on with your monitor and/or video card.

I was unable to load and instal the NVIDIA updates, so there may be something going on the vid card. Guess I'll have to check into a new video card. I did run diagnostics and actually the video card passed the tests..so IM in a quandry. I do know something is amiss, so it's try try try or buy buy buy.

Fordlover1951,
Would help a bunch if you tell us as much about the computer as possible, like who makes it (model if possible), your operating system (XP, 2000, 98, etc). Just like a truck, can't get good info unless you let us know what you have.

Fordlover1951 I had a very similar experience. Unfortunately it's not a clear cut issue. What's happening is as the picture is being decompressed or rendered to your screen, parts of the images are corrupted. This may be due to lack of bandwidth, or corrupted rendering software.

Check your image software, and see if there are any updates. You may want to reinstall your photo software. Also check your bandwidth, slow speeds might not allow you to download the image correctly. Hope this helps.
