Has anyone used those computer fixers that are advertised on TV?
The ones I'm talking about are Finally Fast, and My Clean PC.
My computers are running slower and slower, and I've done defragged and cleared out everything I can, but thhose didn't do much for performance. My desk top is just about useless, even my printer has stopped working.
So I'm hoping someone has used either of those fixers, and has something good to say about them.
Don't know anything about them, but I suspect you have some viruses running around.
Do you use a good anti virus program (AVG, Norton, or whatever)?
Might try making sure that you're off line and restarting your compute in safe mode -- then run your AV -- sometimes that helps.
Also, Microsoft has something called Malicous Software Removal Tool that's supposed to help sometimes. I believe that you can run a scan online or you can download the tool. Google Malicous Software Removal tool and you should be able to find it.
As for the companies, IDK. I'd at least check them out with the Better Business Bureau -- you can do that online.
My brother has an IT support company. He makes a lot of money fixing what those advertised on TV computer fixes break. If you want to be worse off than you are now use them. If you want your computer fixed PM me and I'll send you his information. He can fix your computer anywhere you are as long as it is connected to the internet.
The biggest drag I've usually found on computers is a bunch of unused, installed programs. Go to the control panel, add/remove programs, and if there's anything in there you don't use (it should tell you last use on most programs), uninstall it. Many programs load themselves on computer start-up, using some memory and forcing the OS to jockey it around the whole time it's running. Also, clean up your desktop--don't have more than a couple dozen icons sitting on it. Clear your temp files, too and turn off Windows indexing. Above all, avoid downloading "gadgets", "tweaks", "widgets" and the like. Most of these, while seemingly providing a neat little feature, are little more than viruses. Also, don't surf ****.
All this, of course, is assuming a virus-free computer. AVG, Avast, Windows Defender are all good, and it helps to use a program like Spybot Search & Destroy, too.
I actually run a computer repair shop, and I see this problem every day. Unfortunately, there can be a multitude of possible causes. First off, I always prefer to rule out hardware issues first. A failing hard drive will often cause the issues you are experiencing. Use something like Seatools for Windows to check the physical condition of the drive.
If your hard drive checks out OK, the next most likely culprit is malware (viruses, trojans, and such). Download, install, and run a full scan with Malwarebytes, and see what it finds.
As was mentioned earlier, you may have a whole bunch of crap installed that is hogging resources. Check your installed programs for stuff like toolbars, coupon programs, conduit search, and remove them.
Although not a detailed list, this should get you started down the right path.

Oh heck yeah to both y'all----great utility, free version is pretty amazing!
Another I like and use is SUPERAntiSpyWare---in conjunction with MS Security Essentials, Malwarebytes its a great alternate site to check what's lurking in our gigabytes and what nots!
