Anyone know of a scanner to read codes on a 00 PSD. I hate all the stealerships around here, and have a good source on ford parts at a reduced rate, so will a programmer/tuner like predator read codes??
Go to diatek.com. They make an afordable scanner that reads only ford. It also does all the other functions and reads data. Great for self diagnostics.
I don't know if this will work but try the Dash Board read if your mileage and trip odometer is digital display. Push in the mileage reset button and hold it in and then start the truck. I know on the 2003 this will default to a self diagnostic and you can click through every single code.
I use an Edge Evolution tuner ($300) When I was having tranny problems the shop hooked the truck up to their $12k snap-on and we got the same codes. So I was happy with my purchase.

The Hand held programmers like the Superchips and an Edge Evolution will both read codes form your truck, I like the superchips a little better it has a more comprehensive list of codes. There aren't many other readers out there that will read from these trucks unless you want to spend a chunk of change although Auto Enginuity makes one that will load into a lap top or palm pilot that will do all of the same tests that dealerships and the expensive diag. readers will do.
From what I understand, the AutoZone units do not read the "enhanced" codes that are used on Ford diesels.
That's correct. I had the flashing O/D light one night and Autozone couldn't pull a code. I went to a private shop with a more complex scanner who was able to pull the code. (BTW, it was a pcm code which ended up being low voltage from a faulty alternator)
