Transmission compatability

My little brother is thinking about buying an '87 Cougar with a 3.8l AOD. The tranny is bad, which brings me to my question. I have a 302/AOD combo that will be getting split up for a ranger swap, with a 5spd I have instead of the AOD, is there any interchange between a 3.8l AOD and a 302 AOD? I believe the 3.8l has the same belhousing pattern, but beyond that I have not idea if there is any interchange or not. Thanks in advance for any help.

Should work. I bolted a 5.0 to a 3.8 tranmission many years ago with no problem.

You may have to do something with tv cable . 87 I think had cable and your other if out of something older may have had rod style. hook up may be diff.
