Post Your door is ajar

For the past few days the "Door Ajar" light has been coming on when I first start my truck. The cab light is also staying on, longer than required. Both the "door ajar" and cab light shut off 10-15 seconds after I put the truck in geer and start driving, but there must be something wrong. Any thoughts?

The switches are in the door latches, clean them with electrical contact cleaner, very common problem.

Hey there, no need to think any question is stupid cause its a good question really. Ken is right about using the electrical contact cleaner stuff. Basically the easiest way to do it is use that little tube that comes with spray cans like WD-40 and spray the cleaner down inside your key whole on the doors. I noticed with my '96 Ranger XLT the dome light would stay on and found out its a very common problem and so I sprayed WD-40 and it worked for a while but then had the dome light problem coming back over and over...so finally broke down and spent about $150 to have a good mechanic install aftermarket door switches and that was about 5 months ago now and to this day, no problem. Hope this helps ya and have a great day.

Why would you want to spray WD40 in the key hole to fix a door contact problem?

Keep the WD40 away from your locks. Graphite is the only lube to use in your locks.

As far as the door contacts (switches), they are found down in the door jam near the hinges on your Ranger although you do not say what year it is. Spray them with real electrical contact cleaner if you have it or WD if you don't. Work them in and out with your finger a few times to work the cleaner in.

If that does not clear up the problem replace the switches.

Thanks for using FTE!

The keyhole and the switch have nothing in common. Don't spray anything in the keyhole to fix the switch problem. And like Torque said USE GRAPHITE for the keyhole........

FYI, the switches are in the latches not the jam on the newer Rangers and YES to graphite.

wd40 will NOT hurt the locks if sprayed minimaly, I worked in a 600 room hotel and we used wd 40 in the locks inside and out for the 15 years I was there. NO problems were caused by WD40!

I use wd 40 for every thing
