We just got FiOS (Fiber Optic Internet connection) hooked up last week and it is AWESOME
Our city, Keller, is the FIRST city in the NATION to have 100% coverage to the whole city, and the best part is its CHEAPER than what we had before, which was Charter. Oh and Verizon is our supplier.
how fast is it?
I've been hearing horror stories about fiber optic stuff, if the line gets cut, it's a hassle...but that's just what I was told, i'm probably wrong, lol
Its advertised at 5 megs a second, but Ive heard it can do 30 megs per second!
Cable is about 1.5 mbs. Of course thats slowed down by the website servers and your own computers ability to load it.

It doesn't really make any difference in the speed. Your computer can't handle more than 1.5MBps, unless you have a custom built machine designed to handle that much more.
Our service (cable, AT&T) normally registers at 3.0-4.5 MBps, they just upped it to compete with the DSL, which is $20 cheaper a month.
Thats true, but we got it installed for my parents business that they run out of the house, and the seperate office in the back yard. My step dad (owner of the business) has whats classified as a Mac "super computer", which can handle that much speed. Supposedly the U.S. wont sell it to the public outside of the states? or somthing like that I cant remember. I do know that its AMAZINGLY fast, so the FiOS cabability is being put to use. Also, its cheaper and it hasnt gone down once
