C 6 shifting problem up and down

C 6 shifting problem up and down

My 83 f150 351w c-6 does not downshift under load. I have to downshift manually- like when you are going up a slight incline it will not shift down from 3rd to 2nd. It tends to lug the engine. It will downshift with the kickdown lever @ WOT. Ideas? Suggestions?

It also shifts up very early when taking off from a stop.

I have adjusted the modulator with some success on the upshifts but am afraid to go to far.

adjust the kickdown all the way to where it makes contact with your throttle lever the soonest. you can adjust the modulator a lot more that you may have. i think i screwed mine in 10- 12 turns to get it to act right. mine was screwed all the way out, it will stop when its all the way in.
