power steering groans
Could anyone please tell me why my steering wheel groans on my 97 crew diesel 4wd? I've bled the steering system twice, seems worse after I bleed it the first time. The level seems fine to me, at least I think it reads where it's supposed to be. Could the power steering pump be going out slowly, the belt is tight. Stumped????

In my experience, Ford power steering pumps are just plain noisey. That doesn't mean you don't have a problem. Is the system bled properly? The fluid level correct? Leaks? I guess the seals or the pump might be going out, but you should see some evidence of that.

Thanks for the reply, the evidence I should see is ??? Stiff turning? Pulling to the right which it does, but that could be the tires, which need replaced. As far as bled properlly, I opened the top of the steering reservoir, had the wheel turned left to right, at least 5 minutes. Does fluid get old, and need replaced? Tell me if I'am doing something wrong, in bleeding procedure. Thanks again. Jeff
