Cell Phone Prep Harness & iPod/mp3
Gentlemen, I am feeling better about this. Like many of you I have been searching for a way to play my music from my mp3 player through the car audio system. Once, I thought that it would be a simple matter because of the "Aux" button there on the radio. I quickly discovered that was a dead end, as did many others here. Then, by accident, yesterday I came across something called the "Cell Phone Prep Harness" and it was supposed to facilitate playing the audio from a cell phone through the radio. It cost ~50 bucks and seemed eminently hackable.
I did some more research today. Evidently this harness is part of a larger accessory called the Mobile-Ease System. In short, the Mobile-Ease system is supposed to allow bluetooth equipped phones to seamlessly interface with a vehicle. If I understand it, the above mentioned wiring harness is the piece that connects Mobile-Ease system to the radio. Apparently Lincolns have had this available for a couple of years.
The Mobile-Ease system might by itself solve the mp3 problem, but it is expensive (~$400) and, even as a hands free phone solution, it seems poorly designed. Why, for example, would it have a phone book? Every cell phone I have ever owned has a phone book built right in.
I am still thinking that the cheap half of this accessory is what we need to build an interface for our mp3 players. My fears are many. Even though the fordgenuineaccessory.com site lists the 04 F-150, is this accessory really available? If so, will it work with my radio? Will it be limited to mono sound? Lots of questions, few answers.
I know that there are techs out there that can better explain the Mobile-Ease system or that maybe have installed one. Please chime in with your 0.02.
Thanks,
Michael
