I have the bedrug and love it. But I also have a Glasstite cap on it. I would probably not want to deal with the bedrug if the bed was open. They are very durable, friend of mine pressure washes his regularly.
I've owned both the Line-X and Rhino. Personally I like the Rhino better because the material is less slippery when wet.

I have the bedrug as well and it was very easy to install. If you are concerned about putting certain stuff on it, you could always get one of those cheapo rubber mats to put on top and roll it up and put it away when you don't need it.
I have the fold-a-cover, but it's more for security, not to protect the bedrug.
The bedrug is not only very durable, but comfortable, too.
If you ever have to crawl in the bed of the truck, the bedrug is great. Your knees will love it. Great for drive-ins and camping, too...
