ok i had an idea and didnt know if it would work but i dont see why not so here goes. could i not put dual calipers on all four wheels so that i would have 8 calipers altogether. from all the pics ive seen of the disc brakes i dont see why except i would have to bulid a braket to hold both calipers and get adjudsatble proporting valves and all custom lines. i figure that as long as i use the brake booster and mc from a 3/4 or 1 ton it should be sufficet on my half ton that only weighs 3600. im not going to be towing its a street truck and i want it to stop on a dime. if anyone has any ideas on why it would or wouldnot work please please let me know because i really think it might. i do have a concern about crushing my rotors because of the dual calipers.
Nobody can tell a man he can not do what he has his mind set out to do. You can do anything you are willing to put your mind and energy into. It probably will not be easy but it is within the realm of possibility. Here's something for you to ponder. When it comes to safety, corners are never cut. When building brakes, you can bet your sweet a** that one rotor and disk on each front wheel coupled with the two rear drums are 10 times what is actually needed. Automobile engineers have already figured this out. Things like that are always over built. So to over build it even more is just a waste of time if safety is what you're after. There should already be plenty of safety built into brakes. But if you wanna do it just to do it then knock yourself out. I'd be interested to hear how it turned out. And jpdmoe is correct. Have you ever tried to crush a rotor? You aren't strong enough.
Another thought: You might be able to stop the rotors on a dime, but what are the tires going to be doing? Another thought: How about mounting duals all the way around? No more beer for me today.
