72 rear

does any one have an idea on what the 72 ford f250s with the 360 and 4 spd stick have on rearend gears???

It is listed on your rating plate - the last 3 digits of the Axle code is the ratio. The books show that you could have any of the following ratios, depending on which axle was installed:

3.00, 3.25, 3.50, 3.54, 3.70, 3.73, 4.09, 4.10, 4.11, 4.56, and 4.88. Some of these are for the 1/2 ton, and I think the 4.88 was only available in the 1 Ton.

where can i find the axle code or the rating plate??

i went to look on the door and under axle it says 38.thats all i could find

Code 38 in my book is for a Dana 60 axle with a load rating of 5200 lbs and a ratio of 3.73.

My guess is that will be a little low for the highway, but not as low as the real stump pullers. A good compromise - but not the greatest for economy in a daily driver.

yeah i thought i had some knid of low gears cause it feels like its revving pretty high in the freeway.but theyre allright i just wanted to know what kind of gears i had so in case i want to change em.thanxs for all the information
