i guess you just got lucky. some people just want to make room for their driveway..if it drives and run great dont worry about it and just maintain the truck so it can give you trouble free driving for as long you own it

I have a friend who's dad bought an 84 Ranger new, it has probably never been washed, the fenders are barely hanging on the doors are falling off the hinges the bed is rotted through and it just keeps on going and going. And he's a bowtie freak, it just kills him the thing won't quit!! It also has well over 200,000 mi on it.

Anyone who judges the Rangers being made today by the ones from the 1980s has a few screws loose as well.

What's wrong with the Rangers made today? I just bought an 03 Ranger Edge and I'm very happy with it. I hope I can say that 10 to 15 years from now.

As someone who had a 2001 4.0L bought back by Ford and replaced with a 2002 4.0L which has many of the same problems as the 2001, I hope you're happy with your 2003 in 6 months, not 5 years.

The fact is, in order to cut costs Jac Nasser screwed Ford by getting rid of older, experienced engineers through early retirement, leaving a bunch of recent graduates who don't seem to know crap in charge of design and testing. I love my 1993 Ranger, and have been impressed by the durability of many other Fords from the 70s through the early 90s. However, I don't think that the designs coming out today are going to be nearly as reliable or long lasting as the tried and true designs being retired. None of this will probably affect people who lease, or feel the need to trade in a vehicle every 2 to 3 years. A lot of us want long lasting vehicles, and from my own experience and the postings of many others on the Internet on many forums, I'm not willing to bet on the long life of the new trucks.

Ever read about the older Ford employees that sued and won for reverse discrimination? You gotta love it!

i'll critize one... my wife has one and i hate the damn thing.... it's a decient little truck, when it works.... she paid too much for it, and i've spent too much on it, to get rid of it...but it haunts me.... if we go anywhere, we take my 78, it's reliable, and can be easaily fix if it does break.. but not the ranger.. as far as i'm concerned, ford put all their mistakes in these trucks.

i have owned four rangers. never a problem. my 98 has 125,000 and i still get about twenty four mph.
i have seen about five others that some people have really abused them and they still go on and on and on.
i say to those people......B.S

i had a 93 ranger 4x4 4.0L with 33 inch mud tires onit. with the bigger tire it put alot more stress on the engine and drivetrain especially the way i drove it.it all depeneds how you take car of it. i always changed oil, greased joints, and replaced or cleaned wheel bearings. i dont even wanna hear some one satying that some other company can make a better truck because they cant. FORD RULES

I'll tell you what. I have some problems...power windows bind going up/down, door ajar light keeps coming on when the door is shut, seat feels loose although the bolts are tightened, etc. Also the stupid people used 4.10 gears in this truck, which kills my fuel mileage. 16 is my average. 18 is the best I've ever seen. That is HORRIBLE in a 6-cylinder truck that weighs less than a Mustang.

But looking past those things, I love this '99 Ranger. It feels powerful. It's fun to drive. Steering is responsive. Vantage point from the seat is great. Brakes feel OK. Heater begins working quickly on cold mornings. I also love the simplicity. Even removing the door panels (to attempt to repair the door ajar switch) was a breeze. The engineers did a remarkable job on building this truck simple, so that it can be serviced easily. Yet they kept it refined, nice looking, and comfortable. So far, this truck has been high quality. I absolutely love it. My brother has a Chevy S10...that thing has been a piece of junk, and continues to money him to death. My dad has a Dodge. It has only 77,000 miles on it, and already the transmission is dying, the power steering is in need of repair, and overall the truck is not a joy to drive at all. I am VERY pleased with the new Ranger I have. And all the Ford trucks and cars I've owned in the past have been overall dependable and high quality vehicles.

People can say what they want...but until I have problems with Ford, I'm going to be loyal for life.
