Alright then, Ive got my Isspro gauges (boost and pyro) all installed and working, and am now ready for a chip or tuner! So far ive found a SCMT that will give me another 80hp for my model truck on the maximuium setting. What is the best tuner or chip for my 96 PSD? Also what would be preferable, a chip or a tuner? Im so excited about this I really want to burn up some rubber.
The SCMT isn't likely to give you enough oomph to light off the tires, but it does give a good kick in the backside when you launch. The only downside I found was having to spend five minutes changing the program every time I wanted to tow something. In the end, I opted for the Diablo Delta flip-chip sold by MotorHaven.com (this site's sponsor) since I spend about 70% of my miles towing something.
I went for the Predator Diablo and set it at 60HP/whatever torque and can EASILY spin those tires to mulch if I wanted to. I tow a boat in the 8 months we go out, so I set it on Tow mode then. I can't imagine the spin and power if I had gauges and 85 or 100 horses programmed........ Yes, gauges are the next thing and I know I'm working Bass-ackwards here. I am sane, I take it EZ

Thanks for the help. I am not familar with custom chips. Where can you get them? How much do they usually cost? Can you customize it for the power output you want?
Custom chips can be ordered from hundreds of PSD parts vendors, including motorhaven.com (site sponsor). Depending on the number of programs you want available (some chips provide a switch to change between 3 or 4 programs), I'd expect the cost to run between $350 and $600. When you choose a custom chip, you'll be asked about the installation (what's already installed) and the desired performance. If you later deside to add more parts, like injectors, you'll need to have the chip reprogrammed, which the shop that sells you the chip will do for a nominal fee, usually between $50 & $100.
I don't know if you would want to go that high with just a chip, or if you can go that high. I would think that it would dramatically increase your EGT's, probably beyond what intake and bigger exhaust can work to reduce. If you want that big of horsepower, look into water/meth or propane along with a chip. Running with 110hp, the needle on the pyro can really jump up there hard when I nail it.

I was interested in running the Predator on my early 99 also, but heard not to expect the advertised performance gains as those were for a 99.5+. Any feedback or dyno numbers for this programmer on a early 99 would be much appreciated.
