I am reading these posts and did not notice anyone mention the price on the SRT-10.
Try $55,000 for a truck that cannot pull your boat to the lake. At that price, I can afford the Lightning and the boat. Not to metion this is the real world and there are not many drivers that can compete with a Pro drag driver and run that truck at 13.3's. I'm not worried with $1000.00 in upgrades on my lightning I plan on running down a few SRT-10's!

And most dealers are getting more than sticker price for them. It's way out of hand. Granted, it does look sinister, but i actually like the L's better...

all this from a former Chevy guy.. those guys have yet to figure it out..

As a previous 02 True Blue L owner I can feel Ford has let the L crowd down. I just got a 04 F150 Lariat with the intentions of getting the new L with 500bhp. Any enthusiasts can clearly see theres a horsepower war going on between multiple brands. Lets look at Fords current mistakes:

1. Killing the L to give the the market with there over priced SRT Ram.

2. Killing the SVT Focus while the NEON SRT is kicking serious butt in its class.

3. Introducing the underpowered 200 bhp 500 sedans when the 300C Hemi is selling at record levels. If the 350bhp doesn't get you going the soon to arive 400hp + version should do the trick.

4. Offer a high performance version of the Lincoln LS to match the Caddilac CTS V's 400hp.

My friend owns a 2004 CTS-V and just purchased a new 05 Mustang GT for business purposes. He said the Mustang shifter is light years better than the one in the Caddy, plus the Caddy has a serious wheel-hop issue that GM refuses to fix. He developed some products to fix the wheel hop, but he said it still doesn't shift like the Mustang..

sjbusa.........Horsepower does not sell vehicles. Never has, never will. Ford nor any other mfg will ever win that game because someone will always one up you on HP. How much HP does one need to enter the freeway? Too many in the Dallas area, street racing and getting killed, because they cannot handle what HP they have now. Look at Ford's sales figures the past 15 years or so. They have kicked butt, not only in trucks, but have had some of the BEST and NUMBER ONE selling vehicles overall and best selling vehicles in their class: Taurus, Ranger, Explorer, Expedition, F-150, Escort, throughout the years. For several years during the late 80's and early 90's, Ford's had 4 or 5 of the top 10 selling vehicles in the World.

No doubt the SRT's are overpriced compared to the Lightning's. Just think what a L would run like with all of the extra dollars in it like the SRT?

I don't think that is completely true. Horsepower may not sell cars in every class but in the Lightning/SRT-10 class it does. The whole point of buying one of those trucks is because it can get on the freeway on ramp faster than most. I think it also effects the Diesel market. Guys want the truck with the most power for pulling their big trailers and hauling all their work gear. Same goes for the muscle cars such as the Mustangs and Camaros (other than the camaros are now dead). There are certin classes where hp is a very big selling point but there are others that it isn't even really considered. Also if hp had nothing to do with selling cars why does almost every manufacturer boast about hp ratings even on their family sedans and SUVs?

People want a vehicle they can brag about. Not many people buy a car based on a rational decision such as value or the best warranty. People want a car that looks and feels good, regardless of all the extras. HP commercials get people into the dealership. A smooth talking salesman gets the customer into the car he wants to sell. Lightning owners are unique. I purchased my lightning because it had everything I wanted. I could have easily got a diesel turbo and cranked out much more HP than a lightning could achieve. Thats why Ford is selling their new trucks with cosmetic packages, Roush, etc.. Dodge and Chevy both are already ahead of them.
