1990 Bronco Needs System

Hi, I currently have an alpine deck with sony explodes in the front and back. No subs or amp. I want some good bass. I think the box will end up behind the back seat but not totally for sure, open to new ideas. Anyone know a good sub amp combo? Thats around 300 bucks give or take some? Post links please! Thanks.

Thumbs up forget about the rest

a good combo would be legacy amp with kenwood subs
that would run you about 290 or so go to crutchfield.com and check out there guide

get one memphis 12 in a ported box and a mono amp rated at around 300w RMS. it would prob cost around $350 but would be well worth it.

For 350? Heres what I was considering.... Its like 390 I believe. Its 2 12" audiobahn subs in bandpass box with a audiobahn 800 watt amp.

Heres a link.....

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Hey, also..... Are tweeters, equalizers, compacitors, etc... necessary for a great sounding system?

if you want great sound get rid of the sony xplodes and get some good speakers. but great is a relative term. do you mean great as in overall sound quality or great as in booming bass or what. i would go with a decent component set run of a 4 channel amp. run the front speakers on the 1st 2 channels and bridge the 3 and 4 channels for the subs.

If you are wanting great sound, then take out the sony's, they're no good at all. For a great sounding system you should have component system up front in your door's with tweeters (come with the component system) in the door pillars do give you stereo imaging. If you have a good HU there should be no need for any equlizers, it should have it built in, that is if it is a good HU, my HU is a Blaupunkt and has 7-band EQ, plus all sorts of acoustic settings and what-not. You should stay away from compacitators, unless you feel you have the need to give out free money (I'll take it if you want lol). All the compacitator does is if you have your subs/ amp, and you wire it to the amp, then maybe on one bass-drum hit it will intensify a little bit, but it will not take away from dimming headlights or dome lights. And if you have your wiring hooked up right (right guage etc.), then a compacitator does you no good. As far as your budget goes, I wouldn't go with Memphis, they are very expensive and for their price you can get better, unless you're into your ego. Personally I stay away from JL also because again, for the price, there is better. When you are talking subs, and pulled up those Audiobahns, I would go for better quality. I have audiobahn subs myself, both rated 600 wRMS and those are 800 wRMS for both of them, and the amp that comes with that, won't dish out enough power to power the subs correctly, also they come in a bandpass, which is great for the hip/hop or rap, because of single tone notes, but when you want quality sound that can go through the whole spectrum of bass, go with sealed. I would say go for a couple of 12" audiobahns, about 600 wRMS or more each, with an amp that could overpower them, but you cut down the gain a little, and you would have better sound quality. That's for your bass, then you would need to upgrade your door speakers and back panel speakers to something like infinity or kicker, or something upscale, and make sure you have a good HU and you should be set for a couple headaches.

if you want the best i would go with digital audio, diamond, silver flute, focal, and beyma make some very very very nice component sets. for subs digital audio 70 series, diamond tdx's, crystal mobile, and i hate to say it but jl 7 series are all very good subs. i have to agree with romer on the sealed box. the idea for good sounding sub bass is to get the resonant frequency of the box as low as possible. less than 30 hz is ideal. to get a box tuned that low either use a buttload of fiberfill in a sealed box or build a ported box really low and flare the ports so you don't get the sound of air moving that is apparant in other ported boxes.

I agree with the DA, I think they have great prices on theZEB.com for their component series. I have a friend that is buying their component system for his truck, and he's putting component's in the front and back, when he gets it in and installed, I'll let you guys know how it sounds. You can go to their website at digitalaudioinc.com it shows their ratings on their stuff. I've never heard of diamond, silver flute, focal or beyma before, who are they?

Bass on a budget for a full size Bronco? Well I can tell you one thing, stay away from sealed enclosures. Because the Bronco has a fiberglass top, you would need to fill the rear with subs to get lots of good clean thump. That fiberglass top absorbs LOTS of bass. I had 3 Kicker Comp VR 10s with a Soundstream Ref 700sx amp and it was not that loud. I would suggest a decent quality 15'' sub with a real amp, non of that Jensen, or Dr Crankenstein crap. Look at Soundstream. The make an awesome product for a fair price. The old Soundstream stuff is better then the new. Rubicon or reference series amps. Also use either a ported, or a bandpass type box. It will give you the most bang for the buck.

But that's your opinion on ported or bandpassor sealed, it depends on the music he will be listening to. If it's rap or hip/hop or solid note bass, go with ported or bandpass but make sure they're not cheap, you get what you pay for, but there are overpriced items out there, so if it's ridiculous, don't get it. For the best spectrum of musical bass, get the sealed, if you have the one-note bass get ported or BP. Kicker Comp VR's are great subs, but at 10" they're not that loud. Even 3 of them. 12" subs seem to have more punch and they throw more air, I would recomment 2 12"s.

if you check out the digital audio site, i'm on there under the whats new heading and big boys toys. i'm the one on the right. diamond, silver flute, focal, and beyma are all very very good speakers. alot of the guys i compete with use them. of course i use the digital audios and tend to do a little better. i'll have to disagree with bchitwood on this. you don't always need alot of money for alot of bass. i know guys that have had 1 15 in a bronco and it has hit over 154 db. in all car audio it is 25% speaker selection and 75% install. you can give someone the best sub out there and give it double the power, but if they don't know squat when it comes to install it won't be worth a flip.

I think you guys need to read the original post here. He wants good bass for around $300 and that needs to cover both the amp and the sub right? Well for that kind of money I would invest in a good amp and worry about the sub later. The trick to getting the most out of your sub is box design, and position. If you build your sub enclosure around the sub that you plan to put in it, you should be ok. Every single 12, 10, 8, or 15'' sub out there is different and therefore you MUST take this into consideration when choosing a box. Don't just go out to your local Car Toys and get some fancy bandpass with plexi glass and neon lights. Find the specs on the sub you choose and then build your box. There are lots and lots of good, free sub enclosure design programs out there on the net. Punch in the sub specs and the software will tell you how to build a box that fits that sub. I made a Kicker 6.5'' Free air sub sound and hit harder then my friends cookie cutter Cartoys box with two 10'' Rockfords with this software. The amp is also very important. Clean power is the only way to go. I would take 100 true Soundstream watts over 2000 Jensen watts any day.
