Here's the skinny, I have three dogs and I am moving. Lawrence, KS rentals aren't very receptive to big dogs. I need to find something to do with my dogs so I don't have to give them up. Kenneling isn't an option due to the length of time, plus, I have one that won't eat when he's there. Any suggestions are welcome, these dogs are like kids to me. I've had the biggest one since the day he was born. Please help me out on this, I'm very distraught over this.
Don't tell the mgmt, teach them not to bark, and litter train them.......No, just kidding(at least about the litter training part). I was in your situation once myself, we had an enclosed patio at the apt and I just let the dog do his business in 1' wide strip of grass there, and really taught him not to bark, didn't tell anybody and lived there for a year and a half no problems. If you get in trouble, I'm not at fault though!!! Best of luck.

I once lived in an apartment which had a no-pet policy. I moved in and then got a dog (sheppard). There was a stink about it throughout the province, but the province (Ontario), said that it was discrimination against pet owners and that the landlords had to suck it up and deal with it. Check with the local/state gov. if there is any laws against pet owners

There aren't many where I will be, some of the smaller towns around here have pit bull ordinances. But, IMHO, that's just people 1) Enjoying percieved fear from stereotypes, or 2) a bunch of people that don't know how to raise a dog to be friendly.
Bargod,
How long do you have to be away from your dogs? Do you already have a new rental place lined up?
We had to make a temporary move from Ohio to Seattle, WA for a period of 5 months. We had a co-worker watch our cat and dog during that time. They did fine. I originally hail from Overland Park (lived there for 30 years) and I know there are rentals that accept pets. If worse comes to worse you can always ask a friend or family member to dog-sit for you.
Talk to several real estate offices about pet-freindly rentals. I always list my rentals with an agent and allow large dogs because that increases the pool of qualified tenants. I have never had a problem with tenants animals.

I think I would rather commute further to work than give up my animals.Increase the area that you are looking to rent in,say a fifty mile radius around the jobsite.Hopefully, you will find one that will let you keep them.Either that,or a trusted friend who would take them in for the 6mo.No kennels for my pets.Nothing against kennels, but to me that would be like putting one in jail for 6mo.Not to mention kennel cough. And not to hijack your thread but,it really pulls my chain when they say NO PETS!My pets have far more compassion for humans than most landlords! And the only one that (goes) on the carpet is the little woman! But thats a whole nuther hijack!
i could tell you how to deal with a difficult landlord but i won't
my advice is get some solid references from where you're living now. find a landlord that got burned by his last tenant. offer a generous damage deposit if he's worried you're going to split or your dogs tear the place apart
maybe you can roommate with somebody that has a house and likes dogs
i like the commuting idea. when i met my girlfriend she was renting a little house on the edge of town. i mean little. t was really just a cabin that had been somebody's weekend place. no 220v for the dryer, no basement. but landlord didn't bother her about her cats or a fire pit in the back yard. neighbors used to go around on their skidoo in winter. was just that kind of neighborhood
