I had a 1997 Ranger 4.0/5 spd and it got better gas mileage than the 4.0/AT - AND - 3.0/Auto other people drove. Someone with an AT drove mine to move a trailer and could nopt believe the difference between the AT and MT. Though rare, you can even find the 4.0/5 spd starting back in 1990 on even the 4 door Explorer.
I have a 95 Ranger with the 4.0 and the 4speed and overdrive tranny. I have seen many others too. I know some people get technical so what he might have been saying is they never had a 4.0 with a true 5speed. With 5actual gears not counting overdrive, like in the mustangs before the 6speed came out.
hmm... Explain this to me...
My 98 has a 5spd manual. It has overdrive instead of 5 on the shifter. But that makes no difference. It's still another, higher gear. Overdrive IS an actual gear. (5th gear)
Maybe it's just me, but even if you're getting 'technical,' 5spd and 4spd w/overdrive is the same thing. Not that it matters anyway, but still, 5spd is 5spd right?
