I have to disagree with you on this one. Since the valve puts backpressure on the engine, it helps to raise EGT. The primary purpose of the valve is to help warm up the engine, not the cabin air. Of course, when the engine warms up the cabin air also warms up.
It's cool. Somebody has to keep me on my toes. The following is quoted directly from the Ford service manual.

Exhaust Back Pressure Regulator

Exhaust back pressure is controlled to provide more heat to the coolant for cab heating when ambient air temperature is below 7°C (45°F) and engine oil temperature is below 75°C (167°F) during low load. At high load, high speed conditions, the back pressure system is disabled.

OK, you got me there, the primary purpose according to Ford is what you originally said, but isn't heat a direct result of a warmer engine? The backpressure valve will warm up the engine sooner and in turn you will have heat sooner, right? It doesn't directly give you heat sooner without warming up the engine first. Just my take...

Yes, it's purpose is to make the engine labor a little and make some heat to warm up the engine, heating the coolant, and in turn providing heat for the cabin.

im getting a code telling me that "exhaust backpressure sensor low input" p0472 i think, if this is the same code you got did you have to buy a new one or just clean that tube or what? it doesnt get that cold down here but during the winter i would like that valve to work just to get the engine warmer faster, just incase i got to get in a go. thanks alot

I wound up buying a new one which took care of it. If the pressure is low with the engine not running you need to check and make sure the witing is good and if so replace it. If you need to how I can give more help to troubleshoot.

Its right near the water pump housing on the front of the engine. You'll see a connector going to a sensor that is attached to a tube which goes to the the rh exhaust manifold.

And brace yourself when you go to buy a new one. Ford dealer gets about $150 bucks for that little sensor. After cleaning my tube (I'll buy a new one next time) my EBPV was still closing and causes an almost complete lack of power to the point where I could make only 20-25 miles per hour. This after 10 or 15 minutes idle time. Since disabling the thing I've had no problems.
