EBPV sticking?

As we all know it's wintertime. I give my engine 5-8 minutes to warm up in the AM and that seems to be relatively normal. My EBPV kicks in after about a minute, I let the temp gauge hit the line at the bottom before going anywhere. When I touch the accelerator, it seems to shut off and idle normally. The weird part is that when I hit about 1400-1500 RPM as I'm underway, it sounds like the EBPV kicks back in and robs the truck of power. Should I replace it, or could it be something else?

Mine does the exact same thing, goes away though once it's up to temp fully. Going to pay attention to what the pros tell you bc I'm not sure what it is.

That's a normal thing for the ebpv. It just gets the truck up to normal temps faster. My old '96 without the ebpv would take a looooong time to warm up. I would start up, run for 15 minutes, head to work about 10 miles, and still have Luke warm air, and engine temps of around 120*f. With the ebpv, I start up, idle about 15 minutes, and get into a comfy cab. The valve kicks in and out, but the truck stays around 185*f, even in thirty miles commute in -18*f weather.

Absolutely normal.

The only thing that wouldn't be normal is if the valve didn't open back up once you tried giving the engine a bit of onion. THEN, I would say it's sticking shut.

It's all in the programming.

I had an EBPV that would stick in just the right conditions. I looked at it when I swapped the turbo and there was a burr on the flapper that would bind when fully opened. A little de-burring took care of that. If I go easy on the throttle (normal) when it's really cold, I can be driving down the highway at 65 MPH with zero boost and the EBPV just a hissin' away until my Engine Oil Temperature reaches 100 degrees, then it eases up until an EOT of 140-150. After that point, the EBPV takes a nap until called upon for the next cold start.

I don't remember this happening over the past few winters, even when it got down to mid-teens daytime temps for a week or two last year. And I have to step on it kinda hard to get it to open.

Being as how it's still cold for a few days here, i'll just keep an eye on it. Either it'll quit when the weather gets warmer, or it'll get warm enough to spend a few hrs playing with it. As it is it's too cold for me to do anything other than deal with the irritating noise and the craptastic power.

I rebuilt my turbo and pedestal and before it was adjusted it worked. but also was too loose for when driving when warmed up.

then I put the proper tension (13 instead of 12) so close at least. would that prevent it from working? cuase not it wont go into high idle?
