I am running a 390 ,TRW forged pistons,Comps cam 292 magnum-560/292/244,4 speed ,4.11 gear, headers and Ford original Tri Power setup. This was great 15 years ago.I'm gettin to where I just like to drive the car a little more peacefully now.I purchased a LUNATI cam .481/.490 lift,.304/.324 duration,224/232 dur @ .50,112 degree centerline and 114 lobe separation.I plan on changing lifters, cam and springs.Has anyone ever tried running this cam? What I'm trying to do is make the car a little more streetable.Does it sound like this combo will work?I'm also changing heds from C8AE-H to D2TE,both heads have CJ sized valves.

Reason: Adding more info
I'm running about 10/10.5 on the compression. The reason I bought this cam is it had a grind close to one of the cams that came from the factory for the 406 and 427.The setup I have now will run on 87 octane and never ping but it's a little radical any more for me.The duration was correct I ouoted on the new cam.
with the wide lobe seperation and wide centerline it should work good. I like to look at the @.050 duration more than the advertised. it being only 224 and 232 it should not be to radical also look at your valve overlap. for a good streetable cam you want something less than 50 degrees. how did that 292h comp cam run I am in the process of using that cam in my truck sounds good and runs good but have not taken it to the track yet. what were your times in the 1/4?? I am curious?? what did you have it in??
I have the 292mag in a 67 Fairlane.I never ran this car at a track just street racing.I have never been beaten in a 1/4 mile race in this car.I have turned it to 7500 rpm's and destroyed a few pushrods and 1 rocker shaft.I would say 6500 would be a better choice. It seems it still has plenty of power at 6500 and there's less chance of destroying the motor.I'd say you will be satisfied with the 292.I'm getting to the point now that winding my car to 5000 is about all the excitement I can stand.Just be sure to use hard pushrods.
I really dont like this cam grind. It has a low amount of lift, and a very large duration. This cam will act very radical. Like I said, good luck getting it to idle. IMO the cam you have now is milder than that one. OBTW, the 406 and 427 were race motors.
If you want the car to be streetable, get the Crane 343941.
