Question How do I...(internet)

Is there a software or hardware solution to letting the phone ring through while you are on the Internet(dial up)? I am pretty sure I have heard of such a thing but cannot find any info now. This maybe a feature of a provider not a program but ????? I have dial up through net-zero if that helps.

Thanks
Chris

There is a device called "catch a call" that will do that if you have call waiting. It will let you know when a call is coming in and put your modem on hold for a certain time period. I have not used it but have friends that have and they seem to like it. It will not let you stay on the line very long without losing your internet connection but it does allow you to know when a call is coming in. There are others like it but I do not know what they are called. All do about the same thing though. Good luck

I have used a software solution called buzme. buzme.com I think it is. I had limited success with it mainly because the caller has to punch in my phone number (again) in order for me to get the notification on the screen. In addition to that, you will need to set up call waiting with your phone company. The entire set up came out to about 10 bucks a month with the price of buzme and the call waiting through the phone company. I know there are other solutions out there, but I just started telling everyone my cell phone number instead of continuing the service.

on mine you just put a *70 before your dial up number and that will bypass call waiting.. your phone company should have guidelines.. try looking in your local phone book...
on edit..
I just reread your post.. I am sorry . you need the phone to ring through and kick you off if your online right?

I saw one advertised on TV. Since I went to cable I am now stuck if the phone rings. No one ever reached me when I was on a phone modem.

I had the same deal as Kundalini, before I switched to Cable. Call your provider.

Yes that is correct. I personally don't care all the important people have my cell number...but my son ( who is the one on th internet most of the time anyway) wants to be able to talk to his girlfreind when she calls. Oh well He's only 12 the girls can wait until DSL gets into my neighborhood. lol

My son is 14, and if I had a dollar for every time a girl called him, I could retire early! He plays JV Football for his high school and the girls are flocking. When did he grow up?????

I finally gave into DSL about a year ago, I will never look back now. It is so great especially when I have to work at home and I have to transfer files that are sometimes over a gig

I would love cable or DSL, but unfortunately it is way overpriced. I can't justify $40 a month for internet service.

Tried to get dsl but not available in my neighborhood yet and I refuse to give Comcast anymore money than I already do. I have a cable modem in my office trailer though and love the speed and convince of it.
