Ive been plagued with an annoying squeek from my wheels for 6 months now. After changing the brakes, and every imaginable U Joint, I gave up and took the truck to a mechanic. Upon inspecting the drums in the rear [where most of the noise was coming from] he said that there was no grease on the bumbs behind the drum. There were four "bumps" located on the wheel behind the drum that needed lithium grease. He greased them and the squeel from the back went away. IM still hearing a lil squeel from the fronts.
Do i need to grease the back plate of the rotors too?
You don't need to grease the front backing plate because the brake pads don't sit on it. The rotors could be slightly warped causing the pads to touch giving you a noise.

I always use antiseeze on those four locating pads, plus on adjusters. Its also a good idea to use it on the calipers, so they slide freely as the pad wears.
The caliper slides need grease in the front, as far as brakes go. Not that this will solve your problem though - when does the truck make the noise? It could also be in the suspension.
Also - if your rotors were warped, you would get a pedal pulsation and the steering wheel would vibrate back and forth.
The noise comes whenever the wheels turn. Its the same pitch and type of noise that was comin from the rear. When the brakes are applied, the noise increases in pitch. [very slightly]. Please note that this noise is not the type that comes from pad wear. The rotors are new as well are the pads. There is no brake pulsation.
Also, the front and rear shcoks are new as well are the springs and body bushings. I dont think it has anything to do with the suspension, seeing that the noise comes as the wheels turn.
What grade of brake pads are you using? Are they ceramic? I have been using the raybestos blues and have had good luck. But on o newer GMC truck when I used them they squeaked every time the brakes were applied, I was told to put on a set of ceramics and the squeak went away.
hey, I posted this in the other "squeek" thread, but mine WAS doing the same thing, then it got really bad. I checked ALL of these things that have been mentioned above. I thought it was bearings, brakes, diff gears. I took it to a shop, and turns out it was a tranny problem. Im having it rebuilt tomorrow. check your tranny fluid regularly and keep an eye for irregular activity. Ill repost after i get mine back and tell you if this IS indeed the problem.
