If your thermostat may not be letting the engine get up to the right temp.Also at Sears tool dept you can get a computer tester about 40 dollers. This will let you get the codes, it comes with a book that tells you what the codes are.Also check for a vacuum leak hoses,gaskets, look at your egr it may be stuck remove it and clean it .Let me know if that works . good luck happy new year.
