Bad idle when engine warms up?
Hi,
I have a 1990 Bronco with 5.0L.
I have a problem with stalling and very poor idle when the engine is hot and is turned off (for a few minutes) and then restarted.
It stalls and does not want to idle. I must give it some gas and rev it up for a few seconds before the idle stabilizes. If I do not gas it on start up, the engine just stalls.
Any suggestions where I may have a problem?

Pull the codes and put a fuel pressure gauge on the test port on the fuel rail. I suspect your fuel pump is dying.

Check and clean the idle air control valve.
If no joy, w/ any of above suggestions, check the timing is on spec. If that's no help try moving the timing to retarded setting. That's what worked for me, but don't know why.

Bad idle when engine warms up?
Had same problem. Changed IAC still no good. Found out Ford has a part to fix idle stalls and surges. Alot of Dealers dont even know they stock it. Its just a flat machined plate(spacer) with allen screw adjustments to let more air go around the throttle body in order to maintain proper idle. It fits between the IAC and
throttle body.
