I have ordered several W31's before but none since 2001. My latest was a 2005 ordered 1 week ago Monday. Usually after the first week I would receive a VIN but my dealer now tells me the order is in the que but the VIN is not assigned until the week of the build.

Did this proceedure change?

 

I had my vin well before my build date. Took me about 3-4 weeks to get the VIN.

 

We had our VIN 3 days after the order was placed. With a build date week of 10/18/04 but that has slipped to 10/25/04

 

Are we talking about the first 10 digits of the VIN ? Coem to think of it, how many digits are in a VIN ?

 

17 digits and yes I got all 17 three days after the order was placed.

 

I usually received the VIN (2000 & 2001 model years) right after the order was placed (a few days) also. However, the dealer is telling me that this has changed for 2005 and that the VIN will not be assigned to the order until build date. Can anyone confirm this?

When I call VOPC there is no information on this order. However, I am using the DORA print-out from the original quote (priority 99). The actual order number could be different but during my 2001 purchase it was the same.

Ed if your priority number is 99 your truck will never be built. Sounds like that is just a mock up DORA for pricing (read some of jeff's posts he does this too) ask your dealer for your DORA, priority should be around 10 (10 is best) some say they have 19. I didn't get my VIN until about the same time I had a build date as I recall so your dealer may not be BSing you about this.

 

Thanks, I looked at my previous DORA's and they all had a priority date of 15. The sheet with the priority 99 looks totally different, just a print screen of the order process I guess.
