sorry, I worked for them for about a year and their goal for tech support was for everyone with a problem to call in no less than 6 times. that is why you are pushed so hard to get off of the phone after one troubleshooting step.
if the friend had no idea what was going on, I would just tell him to be more carefull. That is how viruses are speard through email so easily, naive people forward every bit of funny, chain, prayer etc to everyone in the address book. But anyways... Glad you got it figured out.
It is an actual website that his link was for. It was to my "dream truck". Just happened that good ol' aim liked to corupt his link. Crap happens, all we can do is wipe it off and flush it out.
Here's something else everyone can try. I know that everyone has their preferences of Netscape vs. IE, Mac vs. PC, Yahoo vs. Google, but you can try it nevertheless.
It's the new yahoo toolbar with the "anti-spy" function, and it found alot of stuff on my computer even after I ran spy bot, so you can try it and see.
After you install there's a small button in the lower part of the toolbar that has the "bullseye" looking icon, and you just click on it for the different functions.
