Alright guys and gals. I need some serious help. I was talking to a friend on aim and he sent me a link. Not knowing what it was I clicked it. I bet you can guess what happened... Yup... Big boo boo. My task manager won't work nor will regedit. Most of my system tools are running like crap and my computer is noticibly slower. I ran an updated virus scan with my McAfee and did all the chkdsks that I was able to do. Cleared all temporary internet files and cookies. Deleted tons of unnecessary files (old files and files that didn't need to be on here.) If anyone has any Idea of what I could do it'd be greatly appreciated. I got a copy of hijack this and I'll send it to you over a pm if you need it. I also ran two different adware/spyware bots and they couldn't find anything. Thanks for your time!
Check what tasks are running. Goto Start->Run..Type in 'Msinfo32'. After that click on the '+' by 'Software Environment'. Click on 'Running Tasks'. This should show you what programs are running. Look for any weird or unknown programs.

Also, check your registry for any programs triggered to run when windows starts up, this is usually where these programs start from. I believe it is under local_machine > Software > microsoft > windows > current version > Run
I have XP. Regedit works in safe mode. I've done lots of searching all through there for odd things and nothing yet. And thanks for such quick responses
If your running Win 2000 Pro hit ctrl+alt+del and look under Proccesses tab and look for svchost, see if one of the instances of it are eating up all of the cpu resources. I had that happen with a brand new install after getting a crack for another program. also, XP has done that once too.
I just reread your symptons, and I am baffled. Do you have a 'restore' function you can use? Aside from that, I dont know if I can be of any more help. Sorry

Ditto on adaware, but also get spyblaster. I have found that the two together is what is needed to get rid of the real nasties. Remember to RUN THEM IN SAFE MODE, otherwise you won't get rid of everything and will get re-infected.
