Thanks/ Air Intake

Thanks to all who helped me with my question about the location and cleaning of the MAF on my 97 4.6L. I took the unit apart and gave it a good cleaning with some carb/ throttle body cleaner. After putting it back together the pinging I had now seems to be a thing of the past. I hope it stays that way..
I am now wondering what is the most popular or best air intake system that users of this site have found for their pick-ups of the same year and engine. Do the plastic (K&N) hold up as long as the aluminum or metal ones? Are they all about the same?
