hello i am working on an 87 HO engine and the machine shop mic´d the crank at std. but it was on the low side of std. they ordered me some .001 bearings for it. is this acceptable, they are a good shop. and the crank was traded with mine and had a 20 dollar polishing fee.
I would plastigauge each journal to be sure your clearance's are within spec. Be sure there is an understanding with the machine shop that if there is a problem with clearance that you can return it. Good luck.
Sounds like a good honest shop to me. They could have ground your crank and made
more money. I've used many polished shafts, sometimes combining std and .001 undersize inserts to get the clearances I wanted, never had a problem. Trust them,
I would.
for some odd reason i only get certain email notifications on very few posts. i started to plastigauge today and got a very health line with no sign of taper. it measured out to be .002 of an inch in the main bearings. is this a good clearance.
