I have a question for anybody that has installed the hellwig rear swaybar on their eppy.
everyone claims it is one of the best mods they have done.
I would like to know if you had a factory bar that you removed and this bar is that much better?
or did your truck not have a rear bar at all and adding it improved your ride.
hate to spend the money if it is not a great improvment from stock.
if not we can order the super tuner or have the 3" lift installed instead?
I replaced my stock rear bar on my 99 4WD XLT with a Hellwig unit. I also did Energy Suspension front links and Bilsteins at the same time. The improvment was so drastic I can't tell for sure what did what. I'd say the Bilsteins helped the ride immensely and the sway bar changeover / new front bushings stopped the body roll on turns. The Hellwig bar is thicker then stock and the bushings are better quality, that's why I changed out. Search this forum under Hellwig for others comments. If you can get a supertuner or a 3" lift for the price of the bar, you're paying a lot more for the bar then I did.
A tuner is in the simplest of definitions, a computer that is purchaced to "reprogram" the electronic control module of your car/truck.
There are specific units for specific makes/models/years.
Then can effect many aspects of the operation of the vehicle, from increacing horsepower, changing timing, adjusting the speedometer for larger tires, changing transmission shiftpoints. The list goes on.
They also allow you to reprogram the computer back to the way it was before you changed anything in the first place.
You can also review any OBD-II codes ( trouble codes ) stored in the computer.
Ok, for someone like myself who is mechanically challenged, what is the deal with these? I keep hearing change the shocks, the rear sway bar. How much should I expect to pay for someone to make a change like this?

Go to a local service center / mechanic and ask. Not the dealer. All you'll get from the dealer is the same stuff you're taking off. New but not better. See if you can supply the parts and will they install, at what cost. Typically anyone buying and installing will add a percentage to the parts cost for their efforts. Shop around until you get a fair price or a few quotes to compare for both the parts and the install. On your back in the driveway is doable without special tools but not for everyone. I'm cheap and I like those challenges but I don't do it for a living.
I did all 4 Bilsteins myself, plus the rear Hellwig. It wasn't super easy, but very do-able for a driveway job. The installation costs for the 2 jobs total nearly the $300-400 for the Superchip. I paid my friendly, local mechanic for the superchip install because, while that was simpler, he will help me modify any settings to adapt to things like towing a load. His wife used to borrow his 3/4 ton diesel to tow her horses until they chipped her F150- now she never needs his truck anymore. Well worth the cost, in my opinion.
