Hi there.......my tranny is gone in my 1993 4.0L 2WD Ford Aerostar. My friend has a 1990 4.0L 2WD Ford Aerostar with a re-built tranny that wants to get rid off. Would anybody know if these tranmissions are the same?
My van has a newer dashboard and you switch gears on the steering wheel where as the other van (1990) you switch gears on the floor between front seats. From below the trannies look very similar except for some wiring that is little bit different. Please advise and help........
I believe the only difference that would prevent the swap would be the speedometer drive unit. If one is a digital dash and the other an analog equipped one the sending units may be different or require a swap of additional pieces. Otherwise, they are interchangeable. Transmissions are not my forte, so it would be helpful to get another opinion on this before proceeding.
I have basically the same question......I have a 90 Eddie Bauer with Digital dash that has a wrecked body....my 91 xlt with analog dash has a marginal tranny.
Will they swap?????
YEs, they will swap. The newer van get their speedometer reading from the axle if I remember correctly. At the front of the tranny you just have to make sure there is same amount of wires, once again if I remember correctly. Also the leaver for changing the gears needs to be replaced. It's definitly doable, it has been done on my van and it drives really nice.
