No reverse
1995 2wd Aerostar 4.0l w/ 164,500 mi will not move in Reverse. Transmission is locked in Drive and otherwise operates normally. The van can only be pushed backwards when the engine is off. It can be shifted into Park while running and will not move.
Tranny fluid smells good, is pink and level is in the cross hatch.
Anybody else believe this transmission is toast?

Most of the information posted on the transmission forum here is pointing towards a busted reverse band and tranny overhaul. Sadly, I just don't see myself putting real money into this van.
Good news is that my brother in law has an identical Aerostar and I think I can talk him into taking this one for parts. Fortunate that there is no reason to back the thing up when he drives 3 1/2 hours home .
