1995 Aerostar, 4.0L, 2WD. RABS and Brake light on. Jumpered the Delta P connector and lights went off. Anyone have a part number? Local Ford parts people no help. Thanks Charlie.
Sorry, what's the delta P connector? Are you referring to the shuttle valve switch on the master cylinder? Not sure if the 95 model is the same as my 90, but if so, you can pull the switch off to clean out the corrosion from its hole. They tend to develop over time and short out the switch to the ground, and trigger the brake warning light.
As I said in my response to your question in the other thread, the switch just unscrews from the front of the MC. It's a plastic hex-shaped body, and should not require much force to unscrew.
1. Cleaned and lubricated ebrake switch. Dash Brake light illuminates bright when set. Dim when not set.
2. Was able to pull the top connector from the shuttle switch. Jumpered the shuttle valve switch connector. RABS light and dim brake dash lights remain on.
3. Checked rear wheel cylinders, no leaks.
4. Brake fluid level fine, pumped brakes several times, could not find a line leak either.
5. Checked all brake and vehicle lights, all fine.
6. Depressed steering column red hazard switch, only works on all four corners if I have on turn right signal. No clue why this is.
7. After driving van for a few miles RABS light would go off then reappear if I set the e-brake.
8. Brake pedal switch fine.
9. Pulled RABS fuse #7 (20a) Lights stayed on.
Mine actually went off after messing around with the connectors under the master cylinder. But every time I set the e-brake the RABS comes back on and the red brake light on the dash remains dim. Seems to drive and brake fine though.
As I remember from the service manual, when both the rabs and e-brake lights remain on, the problema is the e-brake switch. To get to the switch without breaking the plastic cover over the e-brake, it is best to remove the drivers seat from the van, remove the 4 bolts at the floor, then the seat comes out. Once the plastic e-brake cover is off, the switch is easy to remove and cleaned with WD40. In my 97, it is only the yellow rabs light that is on.
search for another rabs thread in this forum which I started in 2012 or 2013, can't remember. Another knowledgeable member gave me detailed steps to troubleshhot system.
