I have a 76 F-150 with an 1405 edelbrock carb. I was interested in putting an RV cam in to get more torque and low range power, any suggestions on sizes and specks for a new cam?
Your biggest problem is low compression. You need to get that up to about 9.5 before you can start worrying about the cam. The way to do this is to use 1.776" compression height pistons, commonly used in 360's. Then you can bump the cam up to the Crane 343901 and have a much better performing motor.
Remember 2 things though:
1. Balance. Get the bottom end balanced after changing pistons.
2. Cam break in. A lot of people forget this and wipe their new cam. 1500 - 2500 rpm, slowly varying, for 30 minutes. DO NOT LET IT IDLE FOR THE FIRST 30 MINUTES AFTER CHANGING THE CAM!!!!!!!
