Fuel filter

Is there anything special I need to do to change out a fuel filter on a 2000 F-150?

If it is the same as a Ranger, you need a tool to disconnect the lines. I haven't done it yet.

I just looked in my cd manual. No mention of using any tools. It talks of "R clip and push release fittins", not real clear.

Yes, you need a special tool. You can get it at autozone for a few bucks.

Thanks for the fuel filter info; Autozone as the fuel line disconnect tool for $10.00. And the filter for $6.00.

And a couple tips:
Remove the fuel pump fuse and run the engine til it dies, to drop the fuel pressue in the lines.
Then put clamps on the flexible fuel line either side of the filter, before releasing the fittings from the filter, to keep fuel from spraying out on your face.
Then wear safety glasses anyway.

PS: If you get gasoline in your ear, it REALLY hurts, but pouring in baby oil will flush it out and make it stop hurting...

Worst part of getting gasoline all over your head is restraining the impulse to quickly sit up, which if you do not, results in the deep imprint of the underbody flange across your forehead.

DEEP imprint; then there's the blood running down your face, plus the gasoline in your ear...

Or so I've heard.
