Door differences and Grille Differences?

I'm a ford Nut and Love the early Broncos, I'm finally getting to where I think I have the money to buy one.......LOL........Any way I've been reading these forums til my eyes hurt........Whats the differences in the early doors? and what is the differences in the early grilles? I have found a 66 that is very solid and I've read something on the other post about the doors being different...and Dennis carpenters catalog list different grilles. Also will the half cabs remove like the full tops or are they a more permanent fixture, I know the bulkhead would probably be welded in but what about the top half? Thanks Rob

If you found a 66 that is in good shape then I wouldn't go out of my way to alter it much. As for parts, you can check Jeff's Bronco Graveyard or James Duff Enterprizes.

The 66 doors are unique compared to the later doors because of the door lock cylinder location. However, a 67 door will interchange.

66- removable upper window/ door frames, door lock cylinder is above the body line directly under the handle. Also had a pull type interior door handle. Has round door striker post.

67- has much in common with a 66. Main difference would be the door lock cylinder is spaced farther away from the handle. Some were under the body line.

68- came with a paddle type interior handle, oval striker post. Last year for removable window frames (the only difference between a 68 and later door), lock cylinder below the body line.

The 66-68 grilles were different because the turn signal/ marker lights were recessed in the grille with a clear lens. The 69-77 lens was mounted on the outside of the grille and was a little larger (amber color). The grilles will interchange with minor work.

The half cab and the bulkhead are removeable. It is all bolt in from the factory.
