I have a 98 4.0L with 3.55 gears in it from the factory does anyone have a set of 3.73 in their 4.0L and if u do are they very hard on your motor and how high does it tach at 55 so I can compare mine tachs right at 2000 I would appreciate some help before I buy the gears.....
the differences you,ll see going from 3.55s to 3.73s will be slight in almost all catagories...performance, mileage, etc. i don't think it would be worth the cost. i did a gear change (3.55s to4.10s) when i put the bigger tires on (also put a limited-slip in). regained performance and less stress on the tranny. ford uses several gears sizes...your engine will be fine.
I have 3.73s in my 98 4.0 with the stock tires it was great good power mpg. Now I have 265/75/16s it sucks power mpg went way down. I want 4.33s in it does anyone know how much that would cost? O forgot to add I have a locker to works like a champ!!
