Did you try turning the radio up? At least you don't have to worry about being constipated (sp?)
If it is the sound I am thinking of it is not uncommon for all manual trans. It is more noticable in warm weather when you first start it up or when your sitting at a light in neutral. The fluid drains off the parts in the trans and there is more free play so the gears rattle on the shafts.
Don't most Ford manual trans spec ATF for their fluid? You could try somthing thicker like Redline MT90. The trade off is second gear may be a little notchy until the gear oil warms up.
are you sure it is coming from the tranny? could be a vibration on the exhaust pipe. the exhaust system can make weird noises. make sure everything is tight.
I tried putting in some of that lucas transmission fluid thats suppose to help with worn parts and it didnt help do u think that redline mt90 would be better????

If that is the problem I think it would. Changing the fluid can't hurt. I tried many different brands of gear oil in my Stealth in order to improve shifting and still be quiet. I ended up blending my own concocktion of Mobil 1 ATF and straight 140 weight G4 gear oil. It's a long story of how I ended up with that but it works best for that car -- for me.
these manual trannies call for ATF not gear oil. if you use gear oil, the oil can't get to all the places in the tranny, b/c of its thickness, that the ATF can, thus causing problems, most notably harder shifting. there was a big arguemnt about whether to use ATF or Gear oil, so im not telling you to use ATF, but it is recommended by Ford.

The tranny on my '03 4.0 FX4 is a bit on the noisy side going down the road at speed even. I swapped out the fluid with B&M Trick Shift Synthetic ATF and it helped both the noise and the shifting smoothness considerably. It didn't eliminate it but it sure helped. Just my 2 cents.
Bassaway I think it sounds like u need a throwout bearing mine did the same thing until I put a throwout bearing you might just want to have it checked out just my opinion....
Alright i have run into this problem with my 02 B3000 5 speeed. There was always a noise like something was knocking around inside of my transmission. I took it to the dealership since it was still under warrantee and they told me that my input shaft had to much play. They ended up rebuilding the whole tranny and putting a new input shaft in it. The thing about it is. Alot of these ranger pickups especially the 5 speeds have faulty throwout bearings and noises from tranny. I had just gotten my throwout bearing replaced and now its making noise again not even 500 miles after i got it done. So the noise is not hurting anything and if its outta warantee there is nothing much you can do about it unless you wanna pay to have your tranny rebuilt.
Bassaway,
It cost me 150.00 for labor and a throwout bearing and slave cylinder I thought it was pretty cheap of course the transmission shop is owned by my girlfriends uncle but he dont like me very much but that another story so I dont think that it made that much of a difference in the price.
