My '53 was converted to 12 volt system before I bought it.
It still has a generator, but my question is when the engine is running and I come to a stop, the battery light comes on. It goes away if I pull out the choke to run the rpm a little more
Is this normal, or what needs to be done to fix it?
Don't worry, it's sorta normal on older generator systems. Put a volt meter on it and check out-put at idle. As long as it goes out when you get off idle you should have no problems unless you spend a lot of time idleing the engine. Try just adjusting the idle up a hair and see if that makes you feel any better. Good luck.
I've read where some guys will install a smaller pulley on the generator. This works to increase the rpms of the generator and gives you more power at idle. John
